2017 Saratoga Fellow
Christopher Cottrell, SPC, United States Army
Hometown: Tempe, Arizona
College: Arizona State University, Georgetown University
Degree: B.A. Political Science, MBA
After completing his BS in Political Science from Arizona State University, Chris consulted on local political campaigns in his home state before beginning graduate studies at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. A recipient of the school’s John F. Connelly Scholarship, he focused his studies on entrepreneurship and venture capital, leading a team from the school to win the International Venture Capital Investment Competition, and was awarded his MBA in Spring 2017.
While at Georgetown, he fulfilled a longstanding desire to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army Reserve. Selected to be an officer in the military intelligence branch, Chris will be training in the fall of 2017 and receive his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in 2018. After commissioning, he will return to the DC area and begin a professional career.
Harboring a deep commitment to public service, Chris founded the non-profit Daddy Read a Book in 2013 based on his firm belief that early exposure to reading is fundamental to a lifetime of learning. He delivered a presentation at TEDx in 2013 in connection with that work. At the Saratoga Fellows program, Chris hopes to gain the intellectual foundation required to be a good officer and to develop sound leadership qualities for a life of faith-informed public service.
