2018 John Jay Fellow

Hometown:     Indianapolis, Indiana

College:           Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana

Degree:           B.A. Studio Art

Elizabeth Dewes graduated from Hanover College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art. Following graduation, Elizabeth joined AmeriCorps VISTA, where she directed community relations for a classical elementary school that provides Christian education to a socio-economically and racially diverse student body. After her year of service, she worked at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields and managed a boutique hotel. Most recently, Elizabeth directed operations at the Sagamore Institute, a nonpartisan think-tank founded by the Honorable Dan Coats.

While at Sagamore, Elizabeth acquired an appreciation for global affairs and public policy in her interactions with national and international politicians. Driven by her interest in these fields of study, she recently applied to Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs, where she hopes to attend this Fall. Upon the completion of graduate school, Elizabeth intends to pursue Christ-centered humanitarian relief, respecting and promoting the human dignity of each aid recipient.

Beyond the four academic years spent in southern Indiana, Elizabeth has lived in Indianapolis and is looking forward to living in community outside of Philadelphia. As a John Jay Fellow, she is eager to be intellectually and spiritually stretched, and encouraged in leadership development.
