2017 Saratoga Fellow

Francis Lee, Ensign, United States Navy

Hometown:  Garden Grove, California

College: United States Naval Academy

Degree: B.S. Economics

Francis Lee is a 2017 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, receiving a B.S. in Economics.  He was actively involved with the Catholic Midshipmen Club and the Knights of Columbus Council.  Noticing the decline of the classical education curriculum at the Naval Academy, Francis founded the Libertas Forum, a student-led educational organization devoted to a deeper understanding of the intellectual tradition of the West, primarily the principles advancing the idea of ordered liberty and civic virtue.  Through this forum, midshipmen had the opportunity to entertain the ideas of renowned Christian leaders, including Os Guinness, Matthew Spalding, and R.R. Reno.

Francis is a 2016 Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) Honors Scholar and the recipient of the ISI Preston A. Wells Jr. Leadership Award.  He recently launched The War Poets, an online journal dedicated to the life of the mind and the literary side of the United States Armed Forces.

As a Saratoga Fellow, Francis desires to deepen his faith and to integrate it with his future career as a naval officer.  Upon completion of the Saratoga Fellows Program, Francis will be heading to Japan to report to USS ANTIETAM.
