Daniel Chavez
Fall 2025 John Jay Fellow
Hometown: Simi Valley, CA
College: Patrick Henry College
Degree: B.A. in in Government - Political Philosophy
Daniel graduated from Patrick Henry College with a degree in government, focusing on political philosophy. During his time at PHC, he enjoyed studying the rich intellectual heritage of the United States and exploring what it means for a society to live well. Inspired by authors such as James Wilson, C.S. Lewis, and St. Augustine, he developed a love for Christian philosophy and its role in shaping virtuous communities. In college, he served as a resident assistant, engaged in student government, participated in forensics, and played Viola in his chamber orchestra. Some of his most meaningful experiences came through mentoring younger students, both as an RA and as a counselor for PHC’s teen camps.
After graduation, Daniel served as a missionary to Colombia, providing humanitarian aid and evangelizing to refugee families along the Colombia–Venezuela border. This experience deepened his love for service and strengthened his desire to pursue a life that integrates faith, justice, and public service.
Daniel is honored to be joining the John Jay Fellowship, where he looks forward to further exploring the intersection of theology, philosophy, and public life. After the fellowship, he plans to pursue a J.D. with the goal of serving families, protecting their rights, and advocating for policies that strengthen civil society.
