Spring 2024 John Jay Fellow

Hometown: Orlando, FL
College: Yale University
Degree: B.A. in Ethics, Politics & Economics

Marcos Barrios, a native of Central Florida, graduated from Yale University in December of 2023 with a B.A. in Ethics, Politics, and Economics and an Advanced Language Certificate in Russian. He wrote his senior thesis on Christian responses to social capital theory, focusing on historical religious revivals.

At Yale, Marcos found a home in Christian Union, a campus ministry dedicated to building future leaders. There he grew in his faith and learned how to serve the community of believers, organizing weekly gatherings and campus outreach, leading freshmen men’s bible courses and serving on the executive student team. Additionally, he wrote on theology and the Christian life for the Yale Logos as part of the Augustine Collective.

In pursuit of his political interests, Marcos served as Chairman of the Federalist Party, a conservative debating society in the Yale Political Union. He also participated in the Buckley Institute, the leading free speech organization on campus, as a Lux et Veritas Fellow.

In his free time, Marcos engaged with the Yale Concert Band as an oboist and intramural sports as a college secretary. As an adventurist, he embarked on a series of road and camping trips across America. Outside of Yale, Marcos spent a gap semester working full-time on a congressional campaign, and summers working for a private media company, interning for the Florida Governor, and participating in the Hudson Institute's Political Studies Program.

Highly interested in religious liberty, arts education, and civic participation, Marcos intends to go to law school and pursue avenues of public service following his time at the John Jay Institute.
